ST shapes are structural tees split from S shapes, inheriting the tapered flange proportions of their S-shape parent. They're specified for the same general tee applications as WT and MT shapes — truss and joist chords, built-up sections — in situations where the specific proportions of a split S shape suit the design, including retrofit or matching work on structures originally built with S-shape members.
