Pipe Shapes - PIPE8STD
Pipe shapes are round hollow sections specified using the piping industry's own sizing convention — nominal pipe size and schedule (wall thickness) — rather than the outside-diameter-and-wall-thickness convention used for round HSS. Structurally they serve many of the same purposes as round HSS: columns, bollards, guardrail and handrail posts, and piling, particularly where a heavier wall thickness (schedule 80 and above) is wanted for extra corrosion allowance, impact resistance, or where a project's specification calls for pipe sizing specifically rather than HSS sizing.
